Body Combat class, again.

***** Photo Coming Soon!!!!!*******

Not feeling like going to class today,

but I must.

Physically, I could use a long soak in a hot tub. Muscles already tired.

But my spirit's raging,

need to fight.

Mind, body, soul, need to punch and kick.

Here we go, I'll sneak in the back, hope Mr. Rob

doesn't see my half-hearted jabs, wobbly round-house kicks.

Feelin' like a noodle.

Gotta get in shape, purge my inner demons, so to speak,

Kill those shadowed enemies.

I can do this...

Today is New Launch Day,

meaning they're teaching brand new routines.

Also taking a class photo. (wait for it- coming soon on Facebook!!)

Warm-ups...Rob's sipping his muy grande Starbucks beverage again.

(gotta get me one of those next time..)

He explains some new moves, this time from "Capoeira", including the term "jenga" (sp??),

meaning "swing", I think.

Tells us that today we will growl till we whimper!!!

"What? You don't believe me? Wait till you try the new Muay Thai trac,

it's a real puker!!!

mmmmm, sounds nice. can't wait.

I'm feeling feeble already, taking it slow.

Like before a dance audition, where I'm just learning the moves,

"marking" it without giving it my full effort.

But Rob keeps pushing us..

"GO MAD CARY MOMS, FIGHT!! FIGHT!! FIGHT!!"

"Next track is Karate vs. Taikwondo".

I can't even remember what some of those moves were called,

and it's not long before I'm feeling strangely light-headed.

must. get. out. now.

At the break I use the excuse of re-filling my water bottle,

just to step outside the room a minute.

I almost flee. But return, and with the help of a handful of my kids' fruit snacks I find in my purse,

I regain enough energy to finish the class.

Am glad I did.

Arms and glutes on fire,

750 calories burned (says Rob),

Opponents knocked down.

For now at least.

Just don't make me angry.

You wouldn't like me when I'm angry.

:)

another day in the life (to be cont'd.))

Good morning! So I think I know where this is headed....this daily or almost daily phoneography thing. I'm thinking that I need to start another blog. Still keep jennerositysonar for poems and lyrics and general rants, but for a continuous photoblog of everyday life, in which I attempt to record events and share some interesting photos of ordinary life, I would start another one. Call it something like everydayjennerosity. hmmm. will ponder that today.

In the meantime, here's a few random photos from my yesterday. Of course this is the big weekend of my good friend and former roommate's wedding, so I have more fun pictures to share. Life won't always be this dressed-up. Usually it's quite frumpy, and I need to dig deeper for those finer details that make life fun.

here goes...phoneography for Thursday, April 4,2013.

Last-minute trip to the mall...need a bachelorette party gift, etc.

Of course I had to stop in the Ani-Mall store, where they keep all these gorgeous kitties just waiting to be adopted! Which to choose? I want them all!!!!! oh well...

Driving to the Mellow Mushroom to meet the other bridesmaids. Figures I'd get stuck behind a bus, for like, FOR-EV-ERRRRRRRRR in the rain, late as usual...
but, no worries, cuz,

....I have a feeling...

that tonight's gonna be a good night,

that tonight's gonna be a good, good night!!!

(Stay tuned! Time for mani/pedicures with the bridesmaids... the girls' party continues!!! :)

ok, back for a couple minutes. Following are glimpses of dinner with the other bridesmaids. Gifts from the bride, (she knows me well, note the Starbucks items!) and pizza. I love that the Mellow Mushroom is just a couple blocks down from the little basement apartment I used to live in during my single days. Fun neighborhood! Used to enjoy walking my neighbor's German shepherd around that area. ok, gotta go again!

After dinner we headed out to a seedy strip mall on Capital Blvd. where the karaoke place was located. Weird location, near this tattoo shop with the words "Romantic Torture" on the window, ew.

This place was totally empty except for us and the nice Asian lady at the desk who spoke very broken English and watched Japanese TV the whole time. We'd reserved a private room, so we got to wail our hearts out for 2 hours, choosing whatever songs we wanted to from the equipment provided. Good sound system, though the karaoke screens had such weird background videos going on behind the lyrics, like flamingos or crazy skiiers flying down a mountain, having nothing to do with the lyrics. And lots of Japanese or Korean writing everywhere except the actual lyrics.
Here'sl me and Melmo, glowing bride-to-be: (Notice the weird white dots everywhere from the twirling disco ball on the ceiling!!!)

We all took turns singing solos or duets. Some of my finer performances included:

Roxanne (the Police), Material Girl (Madonna), Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen), Funky Town (Lips, inc.),

Summer Nights (John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John), sung as a duet, I did John Travolta's part!!!,,

Hotel California (Eagles), and probably a bunch of others I can't think of right now.

Here's me doing a grand finale of some song.

Funny thing is, these girls were super-shocked when they saw me do karaoke, because they'd previously thought I was a really shy, quiet kind of girl. Which I am, but I'm a strange paradox between an introvert and a performer. Love to ham it up but need my alone time, too, for re-fueling.
It's been a fun time of female bonding these past 2 days. Today was the manicure/pedicure outing, the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner. Let's see if I can squeeze those photos in before I fall asleep.
Pretty pink nails!!

Fancy dinner menu at the rehearsal dinner!

First course, tomato fennel bisque. (better than Campbells!!)
By the time they served cake, it was well past 9:00, I was pretty tired, and they hadn't even started the speeches or the slide show yet. Good thing they soon brought out....

Coffee, yay!!!

Melissa and me.
Overall, it was a beautiful night. Touching stories and sentiments shared, such an elegant meal, and a special time of bonding between both the bride's and groom's families and friends. I'm so proud of my good friend Melmo for keeping the faith and finally finding the right one. I wish her the best!
Tomorrow's the big day, wedding and reception/dance. Time to get my beauty sleep! :)

bread and peanut butter

catalyst [ˈkætəlɪst]

1. (Chemistry) a substance that increases the rate of a chemical reaction without itself suffering any permanent chemical change

Everyday examples of catalysts: soapmaking (using lye), breadmaking, (using yeast) and the fermentation of wine into vinegar.

2. a person or thing that causes a change

So if you're a bowl of flour and you want to become a nice fluffy loaf of bread, you need a tiny amount of yeast to make the chemical change. After the bread is baked, the yeast can no longer be tasted; it's part of the whole product. Same as soap; the caustic lye that is used with much caution in preparation loses its harmful qualities and becomes part of the soap. Some people are like that, they change you and somehow become part of who you are, something new.

But if you are a spoonful of peanut butter and you get smushed together with some jelly and bread, yes, you are a big mess, but you COULD be carefully pried apart and you would still be, peanut butter. Some people are like that, they can mix up with you and not change you, really, you're still your old self. Or if you are a white fluffy marshmallow, and someone stabs you and holds you over a campfire, you become light brown and slightly toasty-crispy on the outside and really soft and gooey on the inside. and hot! But if the catalyst of the fire is too close or stays too long, you become black and burned to a crisp. Some people are like fire, too, they enter your life briefly, change you, then leave you, either pleasantly toasted or burned to a crisp. But changed.

So it is with God. He is the great bread baker. He sees that we are just like that bowl of flour. If left to ourselves, we pretty much stay the same. We could roll around with some oil and water, salt and sugar, but we'd still be flour, just wet and in a big mess. But if he adds a catalyst, some sort of event or person, to the mix, like yeast, we start to change. Whether it's a change we desire or not, it happens. When yeast acts on the flour, the dough begins to rise. Sometimes we rise in a good way when God allows those catalysts to act in our lives. But at some point, the dough rises too high, and it must be punched down, manually, with one's fists. Same thing with God, He has to pummel us back down when we get too full of ourselves. As many times as it takes. And finally, that bread is put in the oven, in that intense heat, to bake to its full perfection. Analogy here, the heat of the trials in our lives. While the actual bread-baking process takes only a couple hours, we won't reach our full perfection till eternity. Constantly being re-worked in this lifetime, having new yeast added to our mix, those people who enter in and become something new with us, and then those people that are just fun to mix with, those peanut butter and jelly mixtures, and then....there are those fires.

So there you have it. Bread and peanut butter.

Marshmallows, Campfires, Yeast, and Jelly.

That's about as deep as I go.

Ping!!!

a day in my life

Good Morning! This "day in my life" may be a repeated theme in my blog, as I seek to capture some of thelittle moments of my day in photos, hoping to find some interesting visuals as we go along this journey.

Of course, what better way to start the day than a hot "tall dark" from the Starbucks drive-thru?!!! Don't forget the cream & sugar, with extra sugar on the side.

Later on, my errands take me to the library, where I load up my little wheeled cart from the car....
dro
....return all 30 or more children's picture books back through the book drop.....
...and proceed to check out another 30 or so more books!!! Mostly for the kids, of course, like I really have time to just read books these days... :) Actually I do have a couple books for myself, and I'll do book review posts some other time.
My next errand was a quick trim at the hair salon, but I felt a little silly about taking photos while the girl cut my hair, so we'll just have to use our imagination. snip, snip, snip....
Now look at the above photo. Look carefully. Is it just me, and am I having wild hallucinations or does this interior car light look like a creepy monster with one weird tooth who's about to attack me while I drive? Perhaps it's an alien that's smacked its head through my roof to observe the transport system of us earthlings. Whatever it is, I'm getting weirded out here, let's move along...
Family dinner out with a friend, bedtime story hour with the kids...have photos of both events, but decided to keep friends and family anomynous. That's all for now, folks! Now heading into a very busy wedding weekend for a great friend, so hopefully I'll have a few photos to post here, things like bachelorette party, karaoke, rehearsal details, wedding preparations, limo ride, dinner, dance, PARTY!!! :) Of course a public blog is not the appropriate place to post all my friends' photos, so I will try to focus on a few artistic details of the events. Observe from a photographer's point of view, if possible. Or a PHONEographer's view, that is....:)
later alligator!!
(and yes, I will get back to posting poetry and more thoughtful discussions in the future. Just have to stop and reflect on life's exciting and not-so-exciting moments now and then...)

Phoneography

Just heard this new term today, phoneography: using your phone as your everyday camera. And then creating a blog with it. ok, let's experiment with that. One type of blog post I want to start doing now and then is a "day in my life with pictures" sort of thing. So here's just a few shots of my day:

Reminiscing the long-time friendship and former "roomate-ship" with Melissa, whose wedding I am honored to be a party of this coming weekend! So excited! Lots to do before then!!!
Getting my bridesmaid's dress ready for Saturday's big day! Need to alter it a bit, then practice walking in those silver heels!
And while we're on the subject of heels....
Here's my chance to finally wear that Little Black Dress and black gladiator sandals that have been hanging
in my closet for much too long! no, not for the wedding, but the smokin' hot Bachelorette party we're throwing for Melissa this Thursday night!!! well, not TOO smokin', she's a good girl, :) but I am very excited about this fun ladies' night out to do some screamin' karaoke and painting the town red!!! or maybe green, since that's Melmo's favorite color and the color of our bridesmaids' dresses and all...
And finally, just another hum-drum shot of my less-glamorous, frumpy life, watching the clothes go round...and round...and round...and round...and round... (you get it, i'll stop)
Have a Super Fantastic Day, and I'll continue this later!!!! Happy Day after April Fools Day and 2nd Day of the National Poetry Month and 3rd day after Easter and anything else worth celebrating that I forgot! Spring is just a great time for celebrating!!

Lunch Time Wails

Just lovin' a bit of old classic rock with my turkey and muenster sandwich today...here's a few lyrics from one of my old favorites, Peace of Mind by Boston, written by Ron Schultz, courtesy of lyricsfreak.com.

Now if you're feelin' kinda low 'bout the dues you've been paying

Future's coming much too slow

And you wanna run but somehow you just keep on stayin'

Can't decide on which way to go

Yeah, yeah, yeah

I understand about indecision

But I don't care if I get behind

People livin' in competition

All I want is to have my peace of mind. (yea

Take a look ahead, take a look ahead, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah... whoa!

Now everybody's got advice they just keep on givin'

Doesn't mean too much to me

Lot's of people out to make-believe they're livin'

Can't decide who they should be.

I understand about indecision

But I don't care if I get behind

People livin' in competition

All I want is to have my peace of mind.

Take a look ahead, take a look ahead. Look ahead.

(Scholz)

Blogsy! (this is a test, only a test..)

I wasn't going to blog today. Really, I wasn't! Thought, it's a beautiful Easter Monday, let's just be still and reflect upon this gorgeous holiday and this fresh time of year. Take in some input, less output. Use those 2 ears, 2 eyes, more than that 1 big mouth. ok, but.. one, I lie. two, my fingers and my brain are dueling. Says the brain to the fingers: type! fingers: no. I don't want to. brain: TYPE!!!! ok so my third reason is...drum roll please...Blogsy!! my new blogging app that so far has not yet crashed on me! That last app was turning me into a Mad Cary Mom, every time it crashed I was on the verge of screaming things you'd never expect to hear from me. I'm even being a good student and watching some of the how-to videos, as my eyes glaze over and I'm just hoping I can learn through osmosis when my narcolepsy kicks in and I'm slumped over the screen, its knowledge hopefully still seeping into my brain somehow. ok, soooooo what exactly was my point in blogging today, anyway??? oh yes. to say that I have a new idea to blog about but that you'll have to wait till later when I get my thoughts together. ha ha! have a splendid day! come back later!
