ozzie

I just love Oswald Chambers.  Here's an excerpt from his devotional, "Receiving Yourself in the Fires of Sorrow"

"Sorrow removes a great deal of a person's shallowness, but it does not always make that person better.  Suffering either gives me to myself or it destroys me.  You cannot find or receive yourself through success, because you lose your head over pride.  And you cannot receive yourself through the monotony of your daily life, because you give in to complaining.  The only way to find yourself is in the fires of sorrow.  Why it should be this way is immaterial.  The fact is that it is true in the Scriptures and in human experience.  You can always recognize who has been through the fires of sorrow and received himself, and you know that you can go to him in your moment of trouble and find that he has plenty of time for you.  But if a person has not been through the fires of sorrow, he is apt to be contemptuous, having no respect or time for you, only turning you away.  If you will receive yourself in the fires of sorrow, God will make you nourishment for other people."

Lord, make me nourishment for other people.  Like a protein bar.  Or better yet, a warm bowl of oatmeal, with milk and sugar.  yeah, i like that.

amen.

I found this article interesting...more than just a nasal spray, of course, but still interesting.

tweets of an introvert

2 AM and she calls me 'cause I'm still awake,
"Can you help me unravel my latest mistake?,
         .......Winter just wasn't my season"...........

So sorry, melting ice cream in the back of my car on this hot afternoon, but one of my favorite songs just came on the radio and that's why i'm still sitting here in the driveway with the windows rolled up so no one hears me...

'Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button, girl.
So cradle your head in your hands
          And breathe... just breathe,
          Oh breathe, just breathe

I just love these tweets by Rick Warren.  If I were an extrovert, I would tweet these and all these other random thoughts in my head for the world to see, but since I'm not, I'll just shove them away here, in the back of this dark pantry, behind those old cans of outdated tuna that i keep saying i'm going to use in a casserole one day...

Rick's tweets:    You can moan or you can move on.
Moving on doesn't mean you've stopped caring; it means you can't change it.

I needed to hear that today.  I've been doing too much moaning lately and not enough moving.  Letting fear immobilize me.  God has a plan for my life. And if I don't pick myself up and hurl myself down that path, I'll never find that plan.  Even if I fail miserably, at least I'll have learned what NOT to do, can pick myself up, brush myself off and move on again.  Life is too short to wallow in self-pity and fear.  God is too great of a God to want that for our lives, and to leave us there without reminding us that His hand is there to lead us along, one baby step at a time.

Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable,
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table.
No one can find the rewind button, boys,
So cradle your head in your hands,
               And breathe... just breathe,
               Oh breathe, just breathe

I think the hardest part of hurtling myself down that path is the waiting. waiting for God's plan to open some doors.     Waiting makes me fidgety. What are You doing up there, anyway?

I wonder what roly-poly's think about...?  Do they wake up each day and think, "hmm, I think today I'll dig around in the dirt, and if someone lifts up this big rock, exposing me to the sunlight or tries to pick me up, I'll just roll into a little ball and do my little roly-poly thing."  And the next day, they do the same.  what a weird life.

There's a light at each end of this tunnel,
You shout 'cause you're just as far in as you'll ever be out
And these mistakes you've made, you'll just make them again
If you'd only try turning around.

It's like trying to explain to someone why you prefer chocolate.  Vanilla ice cream may be nice, but if you're a chocolate lover, you get it. taste buds don't lie.  It is what It is.

2 AM and I'm still awake, writing a song
If I get it all down on paper, it's no longer inside of me,
Threatening the life it belongs to
And I feel like I'm naked in front of the crowd
Cause these words are my diary, screaming out loud
And I know that you'll use them, however you want to

One day I think I'll write a novel about my life, only in someone else's shoes, and of course I'll change the names, the places, the faces, and even the ending.  Because I haven't a clue what's going on.

But you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable,
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button now
         Sing it if you understand.
         and breathe, just breathe
         woah breathe, just breathe,
         Oh breathe, just breathe,
         Oh breathe, just breathe.

Well this car is getting hot and stuffy with the windows rolled up and the a/c turned off.
Time to turn off the radio.
Bring in the ice cream.
And face the music.

and breathe...

class 2

It's official. I've been committed. to the sport of boxing. or at least boxing training. Plunked down the money this morning, took another class. got the card.

Was afraid to get out of the car when i first pulled up. saw some big guys in the window, warming up with the bags. a few chicks with attitude, one with gloriously colorful tatoos all over her back. hmmm, maybe that's what i need next, some tatoos. make me look tough.
what the heck am i doing here, i mutter to myself as i sheepishly walk towards the door, comparing my skinny/flabby frame to those muscle-bound creatures inside. i can do this...
the instructor is a woman. a tough one. she kindly helps me wrap up my hands, though i know i need to start doing that on my own soon...baby steps, baby steps...
i'm a bit confused as to where to plant myself as the warm-ups begin, and i end up hogging the space and the bag of someone else, bumping him over to a different corner. oops, sorry! i know how territorial people can be in fitness classes, marking their spot like a dog and growling if anyone dare steps into it. this guy i just bumped looks like he might be from Taiwan, he might know muay thai!! ohpleaseohpleaseohplease dont' elbow-strike me for stealing your bag, i didn't mean it, really!!
miss teacher gives the instructions for each timed drill, says go, and as the others start pounding into their bags i'm still standing there, uh duhhhh, teacher? could you come here & explain that combo again? fortunately she's got lots of patience and breaks down the moves for me: jab, cross, hook, cross, hook, cross, kick, kick. got it. till she switches it up again, adding elbow blocks, upper cuts, upper & lower hooks, etc.
partner speed drills. choose a partner. uhh, awkward...feel like i'm in grade school on the wall picking teams for kickball. am finally chosen by this........kid. like last week, one of us sprints across the room, does a punch-kick-push-up combo at the bags on the other side, then runs back & tags the other. over & over. I am getting sooooo winded, but this "kid" seems determined to beat the other "teams", so i give it my all. we actually do win a couple rounds. woot! woot! of course he's got, like, 6-foot legs so when he does the bear crawl he makes it across the room in about 2 steps while it takes me about 20 little squirrel paddles.
more glove work, then conditioning with speed balls, dumbells, kettle balls, then ab work, on the floor, on our backs: 120 counts of flutter kicks, counting out loud. 4 kicks per count = 120x4= 500 flutter kicks, right? "yes!" scream my abs. still no 6-pack down there, darn it.
so i'm excited. love adding this to my "repertoire" of working out. produces pain for about 60 minutes, but very satisfying, feels great when it's over with. and once you get into the "zen" of punching that bag correctly, and she does play some great hard rock music in the background so that helps, then it becomes a rather soulful experience as well. get out that anger. punch away that frustration. hammer out that pain and give it to the bag. it can handle it.
my car thinks i'm a slob. nawwww, i'm just...i'm just...very focused, and mobile. yeah, that's it.
post-workout snack: froot loops & black coffee. because i like it like that.
